Why are Animals required to have proof of a Rabies Vaccination

It is very important for dogs and cats to have a current rabies vaccination. Pets may come into contact with wild animals who could have rabies. If a rabid animal bites your dog or cat, it could be infected with rabies, putting you and your family at risk. A rabies vaccination is also required by law to license your dog or cat. In the case of an un-vaccinated animal bites a person, it must be quarantined at a veterinarian at your expense. In the case of an un-vaccinated animal is bitten by a confirmed rabid animal, the bitten animal must be quarantined at a veterinarian for four to six months at owners expense (State Law) or euthanized.
